For Kaleigh

 All I Ask Of You
from The Phantom of the Opera

 Raoul:
No more talk
of darkness,
Forget these
wide-eyed fears.
I'm here,
nothing can harm you -
my words will
warm and calm you.

Let me be
your freedom,
let daylight
dry your tears.
I'm here
with you, beside you,
to guard you
and to guide you...

 Christine:
Say you love me
every
waking moment,
turn my head
with talk of summertime...

Say you need me
with you
now and always...
Promise me that all
you say is true -
that's all I ask  Raoul:
Let me be
your shelter,
let me be your light.
You're safe:
No-one will find you -
your fears are
far behind you...

Christine:
All I want
is freedom,
a world with
no more night...
and you,
always beside me,
to hold me
and to hide me...

Raoul:
Then say you'll share with
me one
love, one lifetime...
let me lead you
from your solitude....

Say you need me
with you
here, beside you...
anywhere you go,
let me go too -
Christine,
that's all I ask
of you...

Christine:
Say you'll share with
me one
love, one lifetime...
say the word
and I will follow you...

Raoul & Christine:
Share each day with
me, each
night, each morning...

Christine:
Say you love me...

Raoul:
You know I do...

Raul & Christine:
Love me -
that's all I ask
of you...

Anywhere you go
let me go too...
Love me -
that's all I ask
of you...

 Raoul & Christine:
Say you'll share with
me one
love, one lifetime...
say the word
and I will follow you...

Share each day with
me, each
night, each morning...

thats all i ask of you

American Revolutions You’re Not Supposed To Know

Since when is it unpatriotic to dissent? Why is it “un-American” to question our government’s policies? And how did the far-right manage to claim the flag exclusively for itself?

Thomas Paine fueling the revolutionary fire with Common Sense

Emma Goldman spreading anarchy in the U.S.A.

Eugene Debs running for president from his prison cell

Billie Holiday singing “Strange Fruit”

Lolita Lebron (and others) attacking Congress

Muhammad Ali saying “no” to the military draft

American Indians occupying Alcatraz Island

Patti Smith using rock and roll as a weapon

The Battle in Seattle

Families of 9/11 victims saying “no” to revenge

“We have two American flags always: one for the rich and one for the poor. When the rich fly, it means that things are under control; when the poor fly, it means danger, revolution, anarchy.”   - Henry Miller

getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries ,
at ease,
eating well
(no more microwave dinners and saturated fats),
a patient better driver,
a safer car
(baby smiling in back seat),
sleeping well
(no bad dreams),
no paranoia,
careful to all animals
(never washing spiders down the plughole),
keep in contact with old friends
(enjoy a drink now and then),
will frequently check credit at
(moral) bank (hole in the wall),
favors for favors,
fond but not in love,
charity standing orders,
on Sundays ring road supermarket
(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants),
car wash
(also on Sundays),
no longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows
nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate,
nothing so childish - at a better pace,
slower and more calculated,
no chance of escape,

concerned (but powerless),
an empowered and informed member of society
(pragmatism not idealism),
will not cry in public,
less chance of illness,
tires that grip in the wet
(shot of baby strapped in back seat),
a good memory,
still cries at a good film,
still kisses with saliva,
no longer empty and frantic
like a cat
tied to a stick,
that's driven into
frozen winter shit
(the ability to laugh at weakness),
calm,
fitter,
healthier and more productive

in a cage
on antibiotics.

hmmmmmm

So recently i was reading some of the comments that you peeps have left me, and i found some quite puzzling. It was talking about the "use" of slaves in biblical times. So I did some research on the topic.  When Paul addresses the concrete situation of the Christian slave Onesimus, in his letter to Philemon, he appears to point out the tension between Onesimus and Philemon's original relationship as slave and master and their new status as Christian brother. He writes that Philemon should receive Onesimus "no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a beloved brother", which many commentators view as an implicit urging for freedom.  Yet, there is ambiguity in Paul's stance. Although in 1 Corinthians he writes: "17Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 20Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you." He goes on to state, "although if you can gain your freedom, do so."  Unlike slavery in other areas, slavery in Islam was never intended to be based on race, or even faith, and the main source of slaves were prisoners of war. This was the case in Pre-Islamic society also, however Islam changed the structure of society in the Arabian penninsula, and laid down a new structure of rules with regards to slavery.    Like the Bible, the Qur'an encourages freeing slaves. An example verse concerning this (2:177) says it is righteous to free slaves and Ayat (Verse) 4:92 says that if someone by mistake kills a believer then he should set free a believing slave as part of compensation. Ayats 5:89 and 58:3 also recommend freeing slaves in expiation of broken oaths. Further instructions to set slaves free is given in verse 24:33 “And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in them.” Other ayats concerning slavery include 4:36, 4:03, 4:24 and 4:25.       So in closing i think that this sums it all up  Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.--Abraham Lincoln
